Estação da Luz (Luz Station), part of the metropolitan rail system ran by the CPTM, was built between 1895 and 1901, initially as the headquarters of the newly-founded British-owned São Paulo Railway. The late-Victorian station was designed by British engineer Henry Driver. For years, it served as the main entry point into the city and its highly visible clock tower served as a reference for all over clocks. After a damaging fire and subsequent reconstruction in the 1940s, the station fell into a state of disrepair. In the 1970s, a São Paulo Metro station was added. In the 1990
